The Furniture Auction at Arborfield Grange

Mrs. Stuart Rickman , who had played a major part in Arborfield life, was spending increasing amounts of time in London, and sold Arborfield Grange in early 1917.

A news item in the 'Mercury' announced on 24th March 1917 under the heading 'ARBORFIELD':

‘Messrs. Haslam & Son, having sold Arborfield Grange for Mrs. Stuart Rickman, who has been resident there for many years, she will, to the great regret of the neighbourhood, be leaving there in about a month’s time.’ 

An Auction sale took place on 28th and 29th June, as announced on Saturday 23rd:

FURNITURE AND EFFECTS including LARGE TURKEY CARPET AND OTHERS, PIANO, PIANO PLAYER, ORGAN, BILLIARD TABLE and ACCESSORIES, OLD OAK and other Chairs and Tables, OIL PAINTINGS, ENGRAVINGS and GLASS, BROUGHAM, GOVERNOR’S CART, PHAETON, Garden Tools, Choice Plants, 14th CENTURY VENETIAN WELL-HEAD SUN-DIAL, and a large quantity of other things, OVER 200 LOTS IN ALL.

Messrs. HASLAM & SON, HAVING Sold Arborfield Grange, are instructed by Mrs. Stuart Rickman to Sell the above by Auction, on the Premises, on WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY NEXT, commencing at 12 o’clock on Wednesday and 11 o’clock on Thursday.
