 The 'Swan' in 1914

Court case involving serving drink to convalescent soldiers in WWI

 

 

This photo, from Alice Allen, shows men in uniform in front of the 'Swan', ready to go to the front in 1914. The landlord William Clark's son, also William, was later 'mentioned in despatches'. He stayed in the Army as a career soldier.

Ready for action - uniforms and smart clothes outside the Swan

Nell Clark identified the following:

"1: Nell Clark, 2: Gladys Stephenson, 3: Fred Hall, 4,  5,  6,  7: Jim Clark, 8,  9: Harry Clark."
