Photographs of Lot 10 taken in 1994 and earlier

Lot 9 is now partly occupied by Pudding Lane Nursery, though Newland Farm have used the pasture behind for grazing sheep.

Lot 10 was incorporated into the Weaver Homes estate built in the mid-1960's.  The three cottages faced Eversley Road, and there were three fields behind:

  • One field was in the parish of Newland, and now occupied by the mews garages and the terraces of Chamberlain Gardens backing on to them.

  • The other two fields were in the parish of Arborfield and now the lower part of Melrose Gardens plus the part of Chamberlain Gardens adjoining Melrose Gardens.

The remainder of Chamberlain Gardens could not be built until several parcels of land were assembled from rear gardens of older houses on Eversley Road.

This Frith's postcard from the early 1950's shows the original buildings and an empty junction; note the traffic signs.

A very old postcard shows the original view along Eversley Road from the other side of the old Village Pond. The Bull Inn is to the extreme right, then the old Arborfield Parish Cottages, then the smallholding and builder's yard. In the far distance is the Swan Inn.
