This Collier photo is from Nicky Ford's collection. It is taken from the grass in front of the War Memorial, looking south towards Eversley Road, with School Road to the left past what is now Fairway House; it used to be called 'Lanka House'. The amount of land occupied by road surfaces is extremely small.

On the right is George Garrett's Builder's Yard, with road signposts in the foreground.  Before the classification of 'A' and 'B' roads, the finger posts were more explicit:

To the north, Shinfield and Reading;

To the west, Swallowfield, Beech Hill, Mortimer and Basingstoke;

The sign to the south is obscured by the one pointing to School Road, which lists Barkham, Wokingham, Bracknell and Ascot.

There are still a couple of finger-posts in the parish, notably in Church Lane.
