This photo, from the Collier Collection, is reproduced by permission of the Museum of English Rural Life. It is a view of Eversley Road looking northwards, taken from where Melrose Gardens now emerges. To the right are Whitewell Cottages and Peacock Cottage (both now demolished). Hidden between Whitewell Cottages and the wheelwright's workshop is Magnolia Cottage, and in the distance is Birch House.

Here's Whitewell Cottage in close-up, now replaced by Whitewell Close.

There's quite a mixture of animals in the paddock opposite, on what is now Melrose Gardens:
